I’ve noticed a lot of twitter feeds getting hacked on their twitter accounts and then tweets on their twitter feeds like this :-
“Click here to see my picture on Facebook bit.ly/1N7e6bN ”
This is fake and will take you to a bad website that will take your user names and passwords or install keyloggers, or worse, on your computer and mobile device.
I would like to show you how to protect yourself against hackers logging on to your account.
Whenever you log on to a new device, Twitter can text a verification code to a chosen mobile number then you will need to enter this before it can gain access to your twitter account.
This is best done from a desktop or laptop device, it can be done from your mobile, however when it sends you the code you will have to switch between screens to get the codes required.
You should look for 2 step verification in all social media sites like Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+, Pinterest ect… This is even available to enable in your webmail like Gmail, Yahoo and Outlook / Hotmail.
Here is our step by step guide to enabling the Facebook 2 Step process CLICK HERE.
OK for the 2 Step on Twitter, log into your Twitter account; click on your photo in the top right of the twitter windows like in Fig 1.
Now down the left hand side click on “Mobile” and add your Mobile phone number where you want to receive the Verification codes to then click continue – see fig 2.
You should now receive a text message with a code, this needs to be entered in to the box as shown in Fig 3.
Now down the left side click the “Security and Privacy” See Fig 4.
Now select the “Send Login verification request to +4477xxxxxxxx” Fig 5
It will then ask you to click Okay to send you a message like below. Fig 6/7
Now Enter your Twitter password to enable the 2 step verification. Fig 8.
You now have your 2 Step verification turned on and will now know if someone is trying to change your password or login as you somewhere else in the world.
NOTE: Make sure your mobile details if you change your mobile number.
REMEMBER even if you are silly enough to give your login details to a trusted friend or family member without the verification code that will be sent to your mobile phone they will not be able to gain access to your twitter account.
